Info you need before you setup your Facebook profile

Everyday I come across new Facebook profiles established by wedding professionals. And every week a few of those profiles are deleted by Facebook. Profiles that have had a lot of effort and use. Profiles with a large number of contacts.

Why? The most common and irreparable problem is that the profile was established in the name of a business rather than an individual.

One of the reasons Facebook is so worthwhile for professionals is Facebook’s ethic for authenticity. It is part of their Terms of Service under User Conduct where we agree that we will not “register for more than one User account, register for a User account on behalf of an individual other than yourself, or register for a User account on behalf of any group or entity;” (emphasis added) And, it is this clause that causes so many profile deletions just because we wanted our profile under our businesses’ name rather than our own name.

Unfortunately there is no way to change the registrant name on your profile account and it seems that Facebook is still continuing to delete profiles not in compliance with the Terms of Service. If you have a profile registered in your business, the only solution at this time appears to be to start over or risk investing the time of further developing an out of compliance profile.

Hopefully Facebook will someday create a way to change the registrant name so it is possible for the owners to save those profiles. And, add the part I mention above to their Terms of Service to the registration page to help the newbie from making a costly mistake.
